July 2016

There were three of us present at last week’s CinDay Guild meeting, but what a treat we got!

Using the Magnificat from Luke (Luke 1:39-56) as a sample text, Tom shared some information on  “sound mapping” stories, that he is going to present to the NBS Scholars when they meet before next week’s Festival Gathering.  We’re not talking about mapping the sound/acoustics of a city or other physical location; but rather a method for analyzing the sound and phrasing of a story in it’s original language, to prepare a better translation into English and a truer storytelling presentation.  Sound mapping a story can give you an idea of which words to emphasize and how fast to speak different phrases, and can reveal word/thought patterns that help you identify the energy and emotion of both the story and the characters in the story.

We look forward to seeing what comes out of the NBS Scholars’ conference on this topic.
