February 2023

A new year, a new day and time, a new location, and stories to tell!

The first meeting of the CinDay Guild of the Network of Biblical Storytellers is Tuesday, February 28 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Our new location is the conference room of the Ohio River Valley District on the second floor of Brecon United Methodist Church, located at 7388 E. Kemper Road. Park in the back of the building – the door should be open. if not, ring the ORV doorbell for entry.

At our last meeting in October 2022, we said farewell to long-time coordinator Joyce Orr. After years of faithful service, Joyce stepped fully into the role of grandmother as her grandchildren are in need of taxi service and other fun family times together. Joyce will continue to tell stories at her home congregation of Zion U.C.C. but she will be missed.

Following that last meeting, Tom and Amelia Boomershine did some brainstorming about the possibilities for our 2023 meetings. Take a look and see what you think – we can discuss at our February meeting and decide how to proceed this year.

Ideas for CinDay

1.     Spend half hour each meeting learning a story, along with checking in (what’s happening in your life these days), practicing stories, telling what stories we have told or will tell, working on program ideas; maybe a storytelling tip of the month?

2.     Come up with a list of nine stories to learn for 2023, starting in February; stories nobody has learned before; ask our membership to submit three stories they have never learned that they would like to learn and compose the list from those (something we could do between now and February)

3.     Sign up members to do a “Monday with Jesus” with Tom and me via Zoom: tell the story, join the follow-up conversation; one person each month

4.     Take turns leading meetings—walk us through the agenda (not necessarily leading every aspect of it)

5.     Outreach: Once a year do a telling and/or workshop someplace—someone commit to finding one by April; Tom thinks most retirement communities would welcome a program; someone volunteer to call and coordinate with the program person. Low-hanging fruit would be Friendship Village in Dayton, but would be great for someone else to find a place.

6.     Just to recall as a program idea: a mini-epic like Ruth or Jonah, Paul or Peter stories, women’s stories or a theme like love stories, ghost stories, elder stories, encouragement stories, justice stories, etc. etc. (but IMO deciding on program is something to do later—first thing is getting a place who would like us to come)

7.     Once we have a general plan for what we are doing next year, promote CinDay in the Miami Valley and Ohio River Valley District communications and any other church bodies anyone wants to access

8.     Promote CinDay as a place to nurture new storytellers

If you cannot join us in person, we’ll be sending out a Zoom link next week on Amelia’s account. Looking forward to our first hybrid gathering of the year!
