Attendees in Cincinnati: JoAnne Rouse Clark, Darrell Miller, Janet Steele
Meeting began at 7:10 p.m.
Welcome Back!
We gathered via Zoom to begin program planning for 2024. On the agenda:
Meeting times/location; SEM Terrace Program; Tandem Telling; Outreach
Meeting Dates
Janet will confirm with Nancy Newton that CinDay Guild will be permitted to continue meeting at district offices (2nd floor of Brecon U.M.C. on Kemper Road) at 7:00 p.m. on the 4th Tuesday of each month. For February we chose to meet on February 20 due to conflicts members had with other meetings.
SEM Terrace Program
After discussion, it was agreed that JoAnne will request the date of April 29, a Monday, for our return visit. Program is scheduled for 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. JoAnne will advise if that date is not available. We chose the theme of “New Life” for storytelling. We will follow the same pattern we did with our previous program, pairing a Bible story with a personal story or story that parallels the Bible story. There is also interest in having CinDay Guild return sometime in the spring to Friendship Village in Dayton.
Tandem Telling
Learning to tell with a partner – tandem telling – is an area of interest to all. We will begin the process of learning to tandem tell by studying and learning by heart the Lukan Birth/Death narrative arranged by Dennis Dewey. Janet will forward to all members with instructions to pick a part to learn. Those beginning with the birth narrative will switch to the crucifixion narrative at the mid-point and those beginning with the crucifixion will switch to the birth narrative. It’s a compelling story as arranged by Dennis and would make a good offering for Lenten worship.
Outreach
Tom and Amelia taught a four-week class on biblical storytelling at Armstrong Chapel. Thos in attendance planned to begin their own storytelling group. Tom will check in with them to see if they need support from the CinDay Guild in forming this group.
Red Lion U.M.C. is designing a Lenten worship program that centers on several Bible stories and has asked if there are tellers who would be willing to help with the series. Red Lion recently suffered a loss of members when their vote to disaffiliate failed and finances are tight. In other words, this is a “from the goodness of your heart” telling opportunity – there will be no honorarium offered. Here are the stories planned and those who have chosen to tell them as of this writing:
Feb. 18: “Broadcasting the Seed” Mark 4:1-9 (Parable of the sower, the seeds, and the soils)
Feb. 25: “Anxious to Love, Quick to Forgive, Eager to Reconcile” Luke 15:11-24 (The Prodigal Son)
Mar. 3: “The Awful Pain of Feeling Rejected” Luke 15: 25-32 (The Elder Son) – Darrell
Mar. 10: “What Can We Count on from God?” Luke 18:1-7 (The Unjust Judge) – Janet
Mar. 17: “Eyes Too Busy to See” Luke 10:25-37 (The Good Samaritan) – JoAnne
Mar. 24: “Do Everything as If You Were Doing It For Our Lord” Matthew 25:31-40 – Amelia
The March dates are covered but the two February tellings are up for grabs – let Janet know if you’re interested in claiming one of them.
