Notes from the June CinDay Guild Meeting, Network of Biblical Storytellers – June 27, 2023
Location: Ohio River Valley District Offices, 7388 E. Kemper Road, Cincinnati
Attendees: Tom and Amelia Boomershine, JoAnne Rouse Clark, Darrell Miller, Janet Steele (notes), Rev. Sandy Vogele
Via Zoom: Ellen Patton
Meeting began at 7:05 p.m.
Opening Prayer – Instead of a devotion, Janet asked everyone to think about the summer solstice and asked what memories each person has of summer. The memories included snapping beans on the porch with family, picking and eating sweet corn, swimming, catching fireflies and the freedom of summer camp. “O taste and see, the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8) is our summer verse to carry with us as we go.
District Directory – JoAnne is following up with Nancy Newton on including the names and contact information for storytellers to be included in the district directory. Amelia will invite members of Grace by Heart to submit their information if they would like to be included. The new District is the Great Miami River District, formed by the merger of parts of Ohio River Valley and Miami Valley Districts. The new name takes effect on July 1st and storytellers have plenty of time to submit information before the next directory is published.
Revelation 22:1 – 8 and Praying in Color – Amelia presented the program for the evening. She told Rev. 22:1 – 8, then led a read-around of the story from scripts she prepared. We then read-around a commentary about the story. Using Sybil MacBeth’s “Praying in Color,” Chapter 10, Amelia asked Ellen to read the story while we listened closely for words or phrases that caught our attention. Using four choices, Amelia had us write the word/phrase on the back of the script, circle it, then embellish it. After a period of time we shared our drawings with one another.
Ellen shared that she’s been journaling in color for some time and that there are books available with the scripture on one side and a blank page for notes or coloring on the next. She’s worked through many books of the Bible this way and Amelia is interested in using these books with her Circle of Grace group in Montgomery.
Upcoming Programs – We spent a few minutes discussing the stories with the theme of “Hope” that we’re preparing for the September and October presentations at Friendship Village and SEM Terrace, respectively.
Next Meeting – July 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Great Miami River District offices. Darrell Miller will present the program working with a story from the Acts of the Apostles.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
